Oil pressure relief valve

OK, I know this has been discussed and I tried searching the archive, but could not find my answer.

On a stock 1275 how is the oil pressure valve configured? Does the plunger seat into the casting of the block, or is there a brass seat in there?

There is a steel seat,or insert if you will.

OK thanks, a steel seat. I'll have the machinist take a peek and let me know what he finds. Is it a wear item?
 
It is a wear item and can be smoothed out per the maintance manual. However, I think the wear might be on the order of a half million miles or some such silly number. More likely to see wear on the piston insert, new ones available cheep from Moss or such. Can also use a ball bearing of the correct size but then you have to tune the spring length.
 
Hey Dug... I was just talking about you this a.m. Not automotive related though... I was talking about the name "Doug". Some salesperson recently spelled mine "Dough".

On my 1275 I lapped my relief valve seat using the old plunger as a tool then I fit the adjustable ball bearing kit.
 
That seat is just a light pressfit in the block. I have often before tapped a 5/16" thread (can't remember if it was fine or coarse) and popped it out using a long head stud. Then I dressed it on the lathe and returned it.
