hi,

was driving on the freeway today @ around 60 mph when i noticed smoke emanating from the passenger footwell. smelled like burning oil. was able to limp home, but when i looked under i saw drip, drip, drip. looks to be coming from the transmission area. i also noticed oil pressure took a considerable dive on idle. usually runs 50 psi range, but now at around 30-35 range. anyone have any suggestions what it could be? sounds like a blown gasket or something? any advice/input is greatly appreciated.

regards,
eric

Eric, check the line that runs from the engine to the gauge. I had the same thing happen while I was a passenger in my brother's BGT. The oil pressure drop could be just because you leaked enough out to make a difference.

after an explanation on the phone to my mechanic and tow to the garage, discovered the source of the leak. a blown valve cover gasket. oil just spewed over once the motor warmed and oil circulated. nothing a new gasket couldn't fix. whew. thanks jeff for your reply. i was afraid it may have been a rear main seal or something.

regards,
eric
