Oil flow to filter

This one should be easy. There are two holes in the side of the block where the oil filter connects. Which hole does the oil flow out of and which hole does it flow in to? I'm installing a new spin on filter, and the mount will go on either way.

That one is not so easy. I remember having just the same dilemma when I installed mine. And I can't remember how I resolved it. Sorry.

Can only contribute that oil flow through the filter is from the outside of the filter material into the center part (core) of the filter, so the inlet of filtered oil should be the center-most of the two holes.

In looking at the engine block layout for a Healey 6, I see that the oil pump output fitting and pressure relief valve line up directly with the lower of the two oil holes. That should identify it as the feed line to filter. The return from filter, which is the center threaded spigot on the adapter, should line up with the upper hole in the block. If you desire to confirm this, just roll the engine over, by hand, in its normal direction and notice which hole the oil comes out of.

Did you buy the mount from Moss? If so, one side of it should be stamped "TOP". Obviously that goes on top, and it goes facing out (towards the filter).

Bob, thanks for verifying the filter flow, an important part of the equation.

Craig, Seems like you have it perfectly. I peeked into both oil holes with a strong light this morning after reading your post. The lower hole clearly goes down toward the relief valve. A very good clue.

Keith, I bought it from AHSpares a while ago. No stamps.
