Oil flow direction at filter houosing

I am installing my oil new cooler and the instructions say to filter the hot oil first and cool it after it has been filtered. Which hole in the oil filter mount (where it attaches to the side of the engine block) is the hot oil from the engine coming out of when it is heading into the filter - top or bottom?

Re: Oil flow direction at filter housing

Not sure about your hole layout. The oil enters the filter so that it flows from outside the filter element to the inside & exits the center hole. If in doubt, remove the filter, crank the starter briefly, don't start it, & see which hole the oil comes out. This would go to the filter inlet. (outside of the element)
