oil filter assembly on 100-4 BN1

Hey all,
Before I learn more new swear words while trying to
reattach the oil filter canister - first time I've
done it on my BN1 - is there a simpler way to get
the bloody thing back on without standing on my head
and breaking both arms trying to hold it in place
as I try to screw in the long attaching screw ????
I've got the car on jack stands and know it would be
pretty easy if on a lift. Thought I had seen someone
else's comments on this little problem before.

I wish I knew, I had the same issue and recently went to the Spin on Adapter.... It takes a bit of pressure for sure. Enlisting a helper might help. A two person Oil Filter, what would have thought....

Unless originality is a must for you, I would HIGHLY recommend putting a spin on oil filter conversion kit on your 100. All my cars have them - the old Tecalemit filters are a pain/mess to change, not worth the trouble unless you are an originality nut.

I've never done it, I went with the spin-on day one. A search should turn up an alternate way to install the filter. Basically, you remove the 2 bolts that hold the filter assembly from the block. Then reassemble the filter on the bench. I've heard that some of the parts don't like being assembled at the angle the filter is when attached to the motor. One thing to look out for is proper seating of the O-ring. When you do a search, add Dave Russell to the user field.

I have a spin on filter I never put on a BT7 so I'm replacing the awkward original
assembly immediately. Hopefully the necessary bolts will not be seized like
on the BT7. Thanks for everyone's advice.

GregW is right, the easiest way is to remove the filter as an assembly then re-install.

Check the threads when you pull off the Tecalemit assembly. Some of the early BN1 motors were tapped using BSF bolts vs later BN1s and 2s which had the heads tapped using UNF. If so, you'll have to get BSF hex head bolts from Moss to replace.
