Greeting,

I have a question regarding my 67 tr4a. On the top side of the oil filter housing, (telecamite), there is a screw with a lococking nut. The screw is retaing a spring with a ball bearing on the end. My question is; What is this items function, and how should it be adjusted?
I appreciate an light anyone can shed to me concerning this. Thanks all. Terry
 
That's an oil pressure relief valve. I'm at work now, so I don't have the adjustment procedure in front of me. If no one else has an answer by the time I get home, I'll look it up.

If your oil pressure gauge reads 90 psi when the engine is cold and just started, you slack off the lock-nut and adjust the screw till the oil pressure is back down to 70 psi not to over pressure the system. Do this with the engine off. If your oil pressure reads 40 at start-up cold, you might try to adjust it the other way to increase the by-pass pressure. But in this last case, if the oil pump is worn and the clearances in your crankshaft bearings are at or above the limit, this adjustment cannot make the oil pressure go up.
