oil filter adapter

I just noticed I have an adapter for a spin on filter by someone called LYN-MAR, Thousand Oaks ,Ca. It work fine but I've never heard of them and was thinking of a K-N with a back flow device I heard of. Can anyone enlighten me on the one the PO installed?

Hi TH,
I know that Smitty from Thousand Oaks sold spin-on adaptors. Maybe the one you have is an earlier version. This is mine, which I bought a few months before he retired.

Yes sir, the word around town is to use a 2009. The 2008 is a little shorter. Since I have an oil cooler sandwich plate, I had less room than most people before encountering the brake booster.

Keoke,

Nope different outfit. The ones sold by Moss say Lyn-Mar, Thousand Oaks on them.

Ray Juncal makes the finned valve covers with the brass plate and billet filler cap.

What is the difference between the K&N 2008,2009 and 3001 filters? The spin on adaptor I have came with a Fram filter on it and I've just used the same one over the years. The Autozone dealer said the 3001 was the same fit as the Fram I have been using(I haven't installed it yet). Are we talking size or where the rubber seal ring fits?

Don't know about the 3001. The 2008 is a bit shorter than the 2009. You could go to a place that stocks K&N and compare the filters. If the center hole & it's threads are the same & the sealing ring diameter is the same, they should all interchange. The 2008 & 2009 are the same sealing & diameter as the Fram PH3600, I believe.

All of the better filters have a built in "backflow device".

Lot of folks feel that the Fram is poorly constructed, especially that the backflow valve is not very good, but that is another subject.

The problem I had was a PO had done brake servo work and with this setup and mount plate all the usual recommended spin on filters were too long in my car. I researched the thread size, gasket diameter and length of various brands looking for one with the all the extras (like anti-drain back devices)and found this Mobil 1 102 *just* fit /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Thanks! GregW. Thats a help.
Velox, it appears you have the same adaptor I have (same mfg name on body). Boy, that IS a tight fit.
Dave, as alwaysyou are appreciated. I will measure the rubber ring.

Guys
The spin on oil filter adapter that is sold by Moss and has the Lyn-Mar brand name is made by Jack Walker of Thousand Oaks. He is an old time Healey guy though not too active lately since he built a '34 Ford pick-up hot rod. Lyn-mar name of his machine shop business is a contraction of his two daughters names I believe ( maybe wife and daughter). He was involved in the early development of the Smitty trans conversion and has made the knobs for my valve covers for years. I think his work is first rate and he has made a fair number of spin on adapters so someone else likes his work too.

I just called the guy who makes these a couple of weeks ago about some parts he had made for me. Unfortunaly he is not making Healey parts any more. His name is Lynn Martin. .

Dont the oil pumps have a bypass relief already fitted?

[/ QUOTE ]
The oil pump pressure relief valve prevents the maximum oil pressure from going too high.

The oil filter bypass valve prevents a blocked/plugged filter from shutting off the oil flow to the engine.

The 3001 is the replacement for the Motorcraft FL-1A, used on many Ford engines. BTW, I just found out today that NAPA had a weekend sale of 25% off everything, including anti-freeze. Next time, I'll alert the group before the sale!
