Oil filler cap - gasket?

Almost every time I drive my car I get a small amount of engine oil blown out around the oil filler cap. I'm wondering if there is supposed to be a cork gasket or something in the cap - mine has none. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I beleive there to be a rubber gasket (it's black). Mine leaks a few drops as well. Try pushing the metal clips in towards the cap. That will tighten the cap. The hole cap is for sale and comes with the cable. I've been trying to figure out how to change the gasket with out disassembling the rivits that ho;ld the clip in place..

Hi Wanna, Yes the six clyn cars had a gasket in the oil filler cap.It "appears" to have been paper. Over time they perish.Consquently, you can simply cut out the remanents outside the little domed section inside and make a replacement, small annular ring, from rubberised cork available from most auto stores---Fwiw---Keoke

Hi Curtis, I prefer repairing the original oil filler cap because the aftermaket replacements are"Quote"--Quelle Horreur!!---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks guys, as usual you have provided me with the information I need. I'll drop by the auto parts store and see what they have.
