Oil Feed Kit for 1500

I am slightly confused as I ordered a oil feed kit from VB. I had been reading that one of the weaknesses of the 1500 was that not enough oil gets to the values along with the oil tends to run too hot. To fix these short comings several places suggested both an oil cooler, which I added last year and an oil feed kit. Well I got the oil feed kit but there are no instructions. They imply its simple to hook up. Well one forum message I read stated you can't run both and another mentioned hooking the feeder kit to the oil pressure value location. Has anyone put one of these on their 1500 and how does it get hooked up. Thanks for any information you can give me.

Sounds like a question for the Triumph forum. I see alot of Spit's with oil cooler and rocker feed, but never looked too close.

Thor, there is an oil galley that runs along the left side of the engine. In it are several plugs. Pull the plug just ahead of the distributor. One end of the hose goes here. On the left rear corner of the head should be another plug. Pull it and install the other end of the hose. If the hose isn't long enough to reach the plug in front of the distributor, just choose another one closer to the rear of the engine.

If the kit came with a "T" fitting, then it is designed to be used where the oil pressure gauge line enters the block. Remove the oil pressure gauge line. Install the "T" fitting, re-install the oil pressure line into the opposite end of the "T" fitting. The supplemental feed line then attaches to the fitting in the "T" position. The end that attaches to the head is a "Banjo" fitting. Make sure the bolt has a sealing washer (the copper crush washers) on each side of the fitting. This side replaces a bolt that is in the back side of the head. Do not tighten the banjo fitting bolt overyly tight as it can easily break. Good luck. We are still here if you have further questions.

Pardon my ignorance, but are you referring to valves or values?

I am pretty sure he is talking about the lifters. I found the plugs Jeff was talking about last night when I pulled the engine out of my 76. I thought to myself, hmmm...looks like you could set some auxilary oil feed up right here. Seems to be right near where the cam would be in the block. It wouldn't do much for the top of the head where the valves are but it would certainly help the lifters. How's the car running Dave?

I have both an oil cooler and oil feed kit in my '78.
No problems. I took the oil feed off the back of the block.
I do suggest you keep an extra banjo bolt for it and the copper washers for it in your tool box. They are relatively inexpensive and can save hassles if you need it.

As for the "T" fitting off the oil pressure line, I am using it also. I installed a dual gauge instead of the temperature gauge. The dual fitting allows the warning light to function as well as the gauge.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Considering no instructions came with it I was pretty much relying on the experts on this forum to help me out and of course you all did.

I'll add an extra banjo bolt and copper washer to my tool box as suggested. Mike H did you notice an improvement in oil temp with the cooler being added? I am not running an oil temp gauge so I was never sure how hot the oil temp actually got and was basing my upgrade on just the reported weaknesses of the 1500 and what actions could be done to strengthen it.

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions
