Ok guys.. I found another part in the bottom of a parts bin. The last one required the tranny, clutch and flywheel removal..for a 5 second pilot bushing install. So good news only, please:friendly_wink:. 20200524_162639[1].jpgHope you all had a nice, safe weekend

That’s the lift eye that goes on the rear of the head. I think it sets under 1 head bolt and 1 manifold bolt. Not all cars had them.

O man..thanks. That's good news indeed! It will go in the 'maybe later' box, though I was wondering about that lift eye. I had heard about it and about it not always being there. Well, I have it for the next time I pull the engine...hopefully never. Thanks again

Mine was a bronze bushing that had fallen out of the end of the starter. Slow cranking had be confused for a bit until I remembered what I had found on the garage floor mid-assembly.

Just remember that if you decide to use it, it takes a slightly longer rear head stud.

I think it was an optional extra, if it was on your engine you should already have the longer head stud?

STeve 1958..that's funny. I bet that drove you about half nuts. I don't know why I thought I was the only one. I'm in good company. As far as using the part, if I was to use it, the engine was rebuilt so I'm not completely sure if a longer head bolt was used, but it seems it would just replace the flat washer on the bolt at the head and at the exhaust manifold. I don't think I will install it though. Would it hurt to undo the head bolt? Aw..don't need it. Thanks all
