YIKES!!!!
:cryin:

Well fellas I dropped a nut and lost it today. I was removing my fuel gauge (but that’s another story) and I accidentally dropped the thumb nut which attaches the fuel gauge to the bracket that holds it to the dash (or the fascia for the purest).

But I digress.

Went to find it on Moss, item #37 page 103, but it doesn’t look like they handle it (read N/A). I pulled a another one of them off the Water Temp/Oil Pressure Gauge and it looks like it is knurled, and it isn't steel or brass, perhaps aluminum or stainless, as it is not attracted to a magnet.

Any suggestions on where I might find a replacement for this Thumb Nut?

Jeff

Check with British Car Specialists

Should be able to find a used one about anywhere you find someone breaking unrestorable cars. They seem to be the same 2 sizes on all gauges, at least from the 50s on, a big one on large gauges and a small one on the little ones.

An aluminum one is just fine to use

Never give up!! Find the nut. It doesn't have legs. You'll feel so much better. Mirrors/flash-lights/mechanical fingers it is there waiting. I often use comprssed air nozzles to blow around where I think a "lost" bit might be and it often rattles the bugger so at least you hear where it is.

Wow!!!

Great advice from all. Roscoe's idea about compressed air sounds great, and the never give up suggestion is very British. The site that Bert gave is unbelievable, and GregW was right, British Car Specialist did have it and it is in the mail.

Thanks to all.
