Oh, I could end up in trouble...

I know I'm looking for a GT rolling restoration, and the wife ok'd $800winking smiley, but I think I'm in trouble.

I'm bidding on a 'rumph. My thoughts, clean it up, add some new stylin' bumpers (gee, wonder where I'll get those), sell it to collect a bigger purse for the GT.

With that in mind, I don't think I'm really crossing the line, just reaching over it to get to higher ground for my GT. Maybe call it, "Taking one for the team".

In either case, wish me luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Tim,

what Triumph are you thinking about buying and flipping?

Paul

IMHO

Don't do it Tim. A TR7 can become a bag of worms really quickly and all of your "profit" can go out the window with the first problem with something as simple as a headlight door.

Tim -

Jack may be right about profit, but I think it's more about the desirability of the 7 rather than issues he presents. ALL LBC's have their quirks and landmines. It's just that some are easier to handle than others, and there are more resources available for some. The Wedge headlight mechanisms are really pretty rugged - it's the usual corrosion of connections and keeping the linkage lubricated that plague them.

Kind of a two-edged sword here: as long as the myths abound, the cars will remain affordable!

Too bad that BL didn't have a chance to develop these cars like they should have been.

If anyone's interested, there's a good story on line of how the Wedge came to be (it was almost an MG!) - also shows a bit of what might have been...

After owning my TR7 for five years Tim, any type of problem it had I was able to pinpoint it immediatly. They are so easy to work on and I am sure my B's will be exactly the same after addressing them once or twice.

GO FOR IT. GREAT CARS.

Paul

I purchased a book on how to stuff a v8 into a B. interesting how the author kind of reccomended the TR7 rear axle set up for the higher powered V8's. I have also found where many of the brake parts off my 7's are identical to my B parts. Some things I like better on my B, some things on my 7's. My 7 seems to wind out better, the B seems to have better low end. I have SU's on both, HS6's on the 7; HS4's on the B.

Not surprising. Most British makes share many parts with others. I've purchased quite a few Jaguar parts for MGs. Same part, same part number, same box.

So, Tim - were you "Bidder 6"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

YAY!! Another convert! Congratulations /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif!

The bidders ID's were protected from "outsiders" seeing who they were. Guess the bidders saw the names. Good idea, methinks.

I look forward to hearing what you think once you get hold of it.

Problem with ebay's new system is friends can'ty tell if they're bidding against one another.

I think that's partly the point. We want to save each other money, but in doing so we are taking money out of the seller's pocket by underbidding the item. I'd hate to get bottom dollar for my own car because all the bidders got together and decided who would bid on it and who wouldn't. It would make me want to sell elsewhere, which is exactly why the new system benefits eBay and its sellers.

Oh, I don't disagree with you at all, Steve...I just don't want to bid against one of you guys when you need something & I just "want" it.

Tony's got a point. I often will just buy something for the sake of having an extra or 2. I might then hear of someone I know missing out on it cause someone outbid them. Feels kinda strange being that someone. I've also not bid on something because I see a familiar name.

Now it is anonymous and I think a bit better.

Yeah, but - as an example - I've got a garage full of factory hardtops...however, if I see one on ebay at a decent price, I'll bid just because...& I might be bidding against one of you guys who doesn't have even one! & not know it!

Weren't you looking for a Midget hardtop? Is it like the one listed in the Midget forum?
