Not sure what you call it, but it is a very thin black plastic line (hose?) about 1/8" wide that goes to a kind of plastic elbow jointed connector hich goes to the watchamacallit...see pics and help me identify what I am looking at! lol
ok so the dome thing is the vacuum advance..ok! Tony, can I get that black skinny hose from ya? I also would like to get some replacement hoses for the whole car. A few of them are short and look to be white cotton braided and they look crappy. Not sure what parts to order for a 1979 MG Midget 1500 ? Thanks Lou
Some of the hoses we'll have to get from Victoria but what they don't have, Moss does....look on the Moss emissions page (& if you can't find the little hose & the elbows, they're on the emissions page of the MGB catalog).
Are you just after black tubing... presumably 1/8" OD?
Visit www.mcmaster.com and key in "112" in the find field to take you to catalog page 112. Select from the "flexible nylon tubing" at the top right corner of the page. You can specify diameter, color, and buy by the foot. On the next page you can select "nylon vacuum tubing" if you want a thicker wall material. Either type will work fine in your car. McMaster will sell to anyone with a credit card.
If you're desperate and don't want to mail order anything... and if you can live with natural/white 1/8" OD nylon tubing, visit your local auto parts store and ask for an oil gauge installation kit. It will have the tubing you need but you'll pay more for it.
You can get it at a parts store, might have to have it ordered in but should be on most of their shelves. "HELP!" section at Autozone has most of that stuff. Can be heated and bent. I replaced this same section with such recently. This is the Napa stuff I think. https://www.opelgt.com/forums/attachments...oses-parts2.jpg
I understand ordering the vacuum hose, I also ordered the two "big hoses" the rest I just took to an outfit in town here that sells hoses - (all kinds of hoses) $18 later they had everything I needed - of course I also took out the smog stuff.
There's nothing wrong with using clear tubing from the pet store. It will work fine.
If you want higher temperature resistant tubing, any grade of nylon will be OK. Common nylon tubing is available in grades 6, 11, and 12. ALL are suitable for use around our engines. If you want the really heavy stuff, visit the McMaster site I gave the link to above and look for the nylon vacuum tubing on page 113. There is a 1/8" tube with a 0.024" wall thickness... it's a whopping 16 cents per foot. In black it will look the part as well as meet the functional needs.
Pet store stuff? won't that melt or collapse under vacuum? Mine runs around the back of the rocker cover to get to the Weber and there's heat galore. Not that I'm doubting you, just surprised it can take the abuse.
There's a reason they used the black, tiny stuff & put it into a larger rubber end that connects to the distributor & intake! All I'm gonna say about it...
