Well, I'm off to my annual living history camp out. I'll be leaving the industrial age behind for a couple days and stepping back to the pre-1840 fur trade days. I went up yesterday and set up the wall tent then hung around for a while jawing. I head up later today to stay for the weekend. Weather looks nice, I've packed the guitar, banjo, and mandolin, Invited some bluegrass buddies, and even pulled out the ol' shootin' irons to do a little target shootin. It's been years since I shot black powder. I hope to get some good pictures of the camp to share.
My "shootin'irons" are actually my dads. One is a .50 cal Thompson Center "Hawkins" percussion. Built from a kit. the other is a reproduction 1803 Harpers Ferry .58 cal flintlock.
I'm pretty excited to get them all cleaned up and do some shootin again. It's been far too long.
Dad actually bought the Harpers Ferry 34 years ago today.(He got it the day I was born) So that's kind of a neat link too.
Hope to post some weird pics for ya all Sunday.
