I have a somewhat SMOG legal ZS setup on my 1978 'B that I've been trying to get tuned without the aid of a gas analyizer. I know the analyzer is the way to go, but it's not in my budget.
I've been trying to set the mixture at idle with a vacuum gauge but the needle buzzes and it's had to tell if my adjustment is actually having an effect. I thought about it and figured that because the ZS just has a single jet setting mixture off idle (2000 rpms) would work. The needle is much more stable at that RPM and I am really able to gauge the effect of an adjustment.
Are my assumptions good? Will I get a better mix throughout the RPM range since the idle circuit is less of a factor at higher RPMS?
