Hi Folks,

its been several months since i've posted here. Open Heart Surgery got in the way! All is OK.

QUESTION: I bought an OEM Luggage Rack ( No hole drilling ) for my TR3A. Where it mounts on the hinges there is a "Hitch type Pin" (Really small one) that secures the pin. I have only one & can't find another.

Who out there would have one or know where I can get one?

Thanx in advance,

Russ

Ace Hardware and many other places sell hitch pins - but since my luggage rack did not have those I do not know what yours looks like - possibly a photo would help.

My rack used a pin that was trapped when the rack was installed. I wanted to easily R&R the thing so I used socket head cap screws in lieu of the pins.

You may end up going with two new that work if it is important that they match.

Russ, been there done that on the heart, glad all went well. Here are some pictures of my hinges, the original luggage rack came with the car. Mine have bolts in them, not pins.

Thanx for the input & suggestions folks.

Regards, Russ

Russ,
I agree with Geo (and Terry), bolts are the way to go. I used 10-32 x 1 3/4" SS socket head bolts, nuts and cap nut. The bolt shoulder is 3/4" long and 3/16" dia., just right to replace the hinge pin. I had to trim about 5/16" off the threads to accommodate the acorn nut. I used the other nuts in lieu of lock washers. I did that to make removal easy. Then I fabricated a gadget to eliminate the "hold-down" clamps, thus negating the easy removal !! Oh well...
Glad to hear you're back into fun things.
Frank

Hi Frank,

Thanx for your input. I really like the "Hold down bracket" mounted under the boot lock! Would you have another one that you would like to part with?

Thanx Again,

Russ

Another one!!. It took me about 18 hours to make that one. Definitely not cost effective, besides I'm busy enough doing facias.
