During my wife's journey back from South Carolina with our "new" Traveller. she met a couple at a rest stop in the mountains near Asheville. Apparently the couple was so taken with her adventure that the gentleman wrote a poem about it!
Celebrating our 45th anniversary, Elizabeth and I took take advantage of the long weekend to go the North Carolina Mountains - And:
When going up that very steep I-26 hill to Ashville,
You wouldn’t believe what should appear,
A lovely little classic British Car,
tootling slowly but steadily up, in low gear?
But was this a beastly Jaguar, MGB or TR6,
well no, it was just a little minor - Morris Minor actually
For that matter, not any Morris Minor,
but a little green traveler wagon you see.
Out for a Sunday drive perhaps?
Enjoying the scenic Smokey Mountains you know?
Actually, with Illinois tags, it was a long way from home
and very clearly a long, long way to go.
Who would take a 55 year old car filled with Lucas parts so far
Obviously a mechanic, tool box and spares in hand.
But no, a lovely little old lady taking it back to hubby
In Chicago she was, her Triple-A card in hand.
Of course, I am sure, he had it completely rebuilt
and knew it to be perfect like a new Cadillac
Well, no again, actually, just bought online,
she flew down to drive it back - aaalll the way back.
We know that little engine to be strong and fast,
well no not really, but just the same
Unable to pass trucks on that steep hill,
she used second gear, but up that hill she came.
So what that the clutch wasn’t quite right,
and t’was July without air conditioning, I will attest
But trudge on she most bravely will,
and I really wish her the absolute very best!

Many thanks to Clark Gregory for his wonder poem! My wife made it home safe and sound, has a wonderful story to tell, and a delightful "new" car to enjoy!
