Odd vehicle sighting

Banjo and a few others have expressed interest
in odd or one-off vehicles. I spotted a really
strange amphibious beast of a vehicle today.

A buddy and I were in my boat trolling for snook
along a stretch of abandoned military base waterfront
that has many concrete ramps directly into the bay.

Suddenly this very odd looking, bright yellow vehicle
came rolling down one of the ramps on large rubber tires,
drove right into the water and proceeded past us as it
motored across the San Juan harbour. I was so stunned
my jaw dropped in disbelief.

We saw it again later as we headed out to open ocean and
I snapped this photo as the folks aboard cheered and waved
at us. Enjoy the photo.

They have those tours in many major cities across the US. Some use old WWII vehicles, which I find much more interesting.

As I recall, the WWII ones were indeed called "Ducks".

I had no idea these vehicles existed.
What a great concept. This one is so funny
looking it must be jolly to ride in it.

Here is a shot of one in the Wisconsin Dells. There are at least 2 tour operators with a large fleet of these amphibians there.

Roman-

That also is a pretty cooling looking vehicle but
it does look like a water craft.

A big, bright yellow bus in the middle of San Juan
harbour is just so funny looking! You don't expect
a bus to be cruising the harbour.

At least being that bright it didn't snook up on you

Willie's on a roll. first it was the steaks for breakfast, now he's trolling for jokes here. hehehe.
That's just cool. I wanna drive one. It's gotta be a bit unnerving the first time you plow a road vehicle that big right into the water!
Hopefully I'll get to see it in person this fall.
I'd love it if someone had one of the old DUKWs around here. YOu could just drive right into the lakes, and tool around, then drive out and head to the next one.
That'd be cool on the 4th of july weekend. the lakes get jammed then.
