Not "odd" so much as just different. 240SX Nissan with 180K, owned by a friend's wife. He brought it over to have me change out the leaking cam cover gasket and O2 sensor. The car is meticulously maintained and looks as if it has less than half the miles it shows on the clock, inside and out. Very impressive. Cams and innards look like 20K. Interesting how well they hold up if looked after properly. I turned in a 1.5 hour ticket. Haven't checked "book time" but guess it at 0.5 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

240SX's ain't exactly my cup'a joe - but yes, a well maintained vehicle is a rare thing indeed. I still remember the looks on folk’s faces anytime they viewed one of our vehicles we’d list for sale. We’d always get the guy who'd call to say (without ever viewing the vehicle) how over priced our vehicle is, but soon changes their tune when they finally viewed it in person.

I had a “plain Jane” 1994 F150 XL (4.9L I6) short bed truck, that I sold a few years back. That sold to the very first person who viewed it & I got every dime of my asking price. Out selling my buddies’ fully loaded GMC truck. His idea of owner vehicle maintenance was putting gas in the tank & taking it to the local hand car wash during his lunch hour.

I've an oldeer friend (80's) who's owned & driven every sports car known to man (well, maybe there are a few he hasan't)...he has all the literature from the 50's & 60's Daytona races as he either went as a spectator or drove in them...he owns a mint 280Z that has about 20,000 original miles that he bought new...says its his last & he only bought it because there were no good British cars available that year! Go figure...

eh... 240SX's aren't too bad... the only ones I really like are the later models hmmm... 1997 and 1998 were the last years to make it into the US I think, and they're the models I happen to like most. It's one of the very few 4 cylinder sport coupes to come into the US from Japan with a proper sports car drive train.... front engine rear drive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

one of the nice things about the car is the plethora of aftermarket parts... stock- the car may seem a bit lack luster, but the engine can be turned into a real beast

I can imagine. 16V and well engineered. No clue what the bottom end looks like but I imagine it's well done too. I'd never own one but because of the friendship I'll work on this one. He has a Jeep... I send him to "others" for that thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

...besides: his wife is ~dolly~. Nordic blonde, Hollander.

as good a reason as any other to work on the car in my book! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

The real motor to have in a 240SX is the SR20DET Something-Something-Something motor from the JDM (and others I imagine). That's the one that turns all beastly when tuned. The mill in North American spec cars is nice, and can be tuned nicely, but is a bit of a lump by comparison. Allegedly.

Still, always liked the 240s, particularly a late notchback. There was a really beat up hatchback for sale near my place not too long ago-the girl who owned it was asking some absurd price for a car that was that rusty and burned that much oil. But of course I considered it.....

The K series 2.4L sucks... It's a truck motor. I had a 1995 240SX. Was a beautiful black car... Very subtle curves. The SR20DET is the one to have... Blacktop (instead of the more popular red top) model makes the most power outta the box - around 230HP, and they (both models) can be tuned to well over 400hp with the right turbo swap, and some electronic goodies. The stock US spec N/A K-series pumps out a whopping 160hp, and you might get 250hp out of it with an expensive completely home engineered turbo system, that'd cost as much as an SR20det swap anyway.

That said. I loved my 240SX. I'd own another one.
