Obligatory Va-Room Post - MK2 Sprite

So my H1 SU carbs were giving me a lot of trouble.
If I pushed the choke all the way in then the front carb would dump raw gas all over the place and they were not adjustable at all - at one point the car would run, but that was not good at all.

So last Wednesday I took it over to BillM's and we disassembled the carbs. The we cleaned them.
Big mistake! The crud was actually the only thing keeping them together.

We got them assembled and put on the car and after a while sort of got it running. Severely dumping gas.

I nursed it home.

Man am I glad I have a parts car!!!

I pulled the HS2's off of my MK1 Midget - they were pristine inside and operationally perfect.

I spent some time cleaning the intake manifold and carbs then installed them. I got everything hooked up and put in a nice new fuel filter and new soft lines and once all the cables were connected I turned the key. No leaks. Ok - turn to start - Va-Roommmm!!

The car has never ran this smoothly since I've owned it, likely for a lot of years before that!

Tomorrow I'll change the oil & filter and take a look at the plugs then take it for a spin!

Great! I had a good run today too with my '63 1098 and HS2s. I don't know why really but it seems she runs a little better each day and I get a little more "spirited" driving it. I'm going to have to start watching it I'll get a ticket soon.
I really like my HS2s too.

Well done. Nice to have a runner.

Let the good times roll.... Great to hear the surgery was successful!

Well I had to put brakes on the family van today, so work on the Sprite happened but much later than anticipated.

After replacing the oil, which btw was extremely gas fouled, I took it out for a short drive. It was great pulling up hills, but when I got it to freeway speed it felt suddenly like it was out of gas. Slowing down it picked up and was fine and I drove it home.

I looked things over, found I had put no oil in the dash pots so I corrected that and took it out again. Seemed better the second time, though I didn't venture onto the freeway.

That was about all the time I had today, so we will see what happens later.

For now, I'm pretty happy with the carb swap!
