Is there any problem with using SS in an Al. head and motor to install accessories ?

My experience with SS threads has always been that they are MORE apt to gall and bind than ordinary steel, especially in locations that involve temperature cycling (like a car engine). But other folks seem to have no problems so maybe it's just me. Use antisieze on all the threads, and you'll likely be OK.

I have a fair number of SS bolts on my engine for accessories. Such as.......well, I took them all off because my gorilla wrench wanted to strip them. Went back to grade 8 steel.

What has already been said. For several years I managed a shop that rebuilt industrial stainless food processing equipment. Like Randall said, they do tend to gall and when that happens it pretty much ruins the threads in the hole they are in.

BTW - there is a pretty good chance that everyone on the forum has at some time or another eaten food from a piece of equipment that I worked on. We shipped all over the world, yes Dale, even Puerto Rico.

No doubt, Tom !!

SS is the metal of choice here in our salt water
environment. Most of my work is with the pharmas-
SS everywhere!

I used pharma grade SS for my alternator mount arm.
