my hazard light switch needed to be replaced, so I purchased a new one from Moss.

so, I pop out the old switch, only to discover the wire plug to the switch is only long enough to reach the switch, when installed.

there's not enough slack on the wire for me to pull it out and plug in the new switch.

anyone have a solution for me?

is anything easy?

joe

Make the wire longer. sodder it and use shrink tube. I expect you are supose to hook it up after it is installed.

Make the wire longer or make a jumper wire with the corresponding connectors on either end. Personally I would do that before cutting into the existing wiring, but that is just me.

well, I figure it out with extending the wires. I had to remove the radio, and that provided enough slack so I was able to connect the wires.

but, now I can't seem to install the radio properly, and the radio tuner knob doesn't always work now.

what did I get myself into !!!

this should not be taking me this long . . .

on a side note, my radio reception was sketchy at best, but when removing the radio there is an antennae adjustment on the bottom of the radio, to which I adjusted, radio is MUCH stronger now.

Hazard switch is not just two spade connectors - It's a multi pronged plug isn't it? You should be able to unscrew and remove the entire console cover fairly easily - then swing it up and plug it in from behind and reinstall.

well, I got everything back together, took the radio apart, and fixed the problem with the tuner knob not working, a little oil is all that was needed there.

what's weird, is that there's nothing really securing the radio, the mounting brackets (2 strips of metal that goes over both knobs) get mounted inside the radio council, and what they do is prevent the radio from being pulled out, but there is nothing to stop the radio from being pushed in, except all the wires inside the council.

did I put this together wrong? has anyone removed the stock radio? I can't find any diagrams of the radio anywhere.

in the end, this took me 4 hours to change my hazard light switch !!

It always amazes me when an apparently simple job turns into a major project. Didn't the original designers and engineers take things like this into account? Seemingly not! LoL

You weren't trying hard enough. I could easily make that job take an entire weekend! Just ask my wife.

If you keep in mind that I have to do such a job once, then find I've fouled it up somehow, do it again, find I've forgotten to put something in way in the back, take it all apart & put it all back together again merely to find I've pulled a wire loose and now the "_____" doesn't work any more, take it all apart again only to find that "_____" not working was only an unrelated coincidence not due to my handiwork...
Yeah - it usually takes at least a whole weekend to suss it out.

Wait till you need to change out the choke cable. Remember those lessons on the R & R of the Console. Got to do another R&R of the flippin console this weekend to fix my turn signals. Must have pulled a wire loose a few weeks ago when I pulled console to change out the Choke Cable and that was right after I had just pulled it to replace the Radio Fuse that was behind the console. Note to self: Do not place fuses i.e. Radio in accessible places that require hours of work to get at and replace. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!

glad to hear I'm not alone . . .

About four years ago, I tried to clean out a crusty wheelwell... The restoration is still going strong! :p

That's why my new motto is "don't fix it, just drive it!"
