Now the fun begins!

Rick,

thanks, I am aware of the heritage certificates but have better things to spend the money on right now. Also there is next to no chance that I will change the interior. I know it's not an original colour offering for the blue cars but I managed to pick it up second hand and it was a lot cheaper than a new set.
I just need the paint code for the Healey blue.

Hey Jeepster,
Like Ray said before, very nice WWII jeep and bike. Know there is a huge fan base in the UK that restore and get together with the hardware used back in WWII. As to the Healey, looks like you have a very nice red with black piping interior on your now white BJ8. Are you going to go back to the original Healey blue and then change out the interior ?
Regards,
Mike

Mike,
thanks for your kind words. Yes, there is a growing number of WWII enthusiasts that collect such machines. I have been to a few of the larger shows and you would be amazed at some of the kit on show.
My BJ8 is now at the body shop and it will be returned to the original blue body colour. I picked up the interior second hand for a good price and don't have the funds to swap it back to a more correct black or blue so it will have to stay as is for the foreseeable future. If I had unlimited funds I would love to get it back to its original spec but I'm not too bothered that the blue and red might clash.
But on the subject or original interiors, when I first acquired the car it had remnants of a camel coloured beige type interior. It was not to my taste at all but I wonder if this was the original fitment or if indeed they ever made such a colour?

Jeepster, Please post some photos of your car when it's completed. I think the ice blue exterior with the red interior will look good. I used to think only black or blue interior would look acceptable with certain exterior colors, but then I've come to really like those cars painted BRG, Metallic Beige and navy blue with red interior. Good luck on the re-assembly.

Rob,
i did a google search some months back and found an image of a blue Healey with red interior and it didn't look too bad. I think only Healey types will realise its not correct. ( but you never know, maybe there was a brave customer that specified the blue and red?)
i plan to post pics of the whole job but don't hold your breath as it may take some time.

Thanks

Jeepster, My car came originally with red interior to go with the white over black you see in my photo from 1965. I repainted to Healey Blue and changed the interior to navy blue in 1982 which is the way it is today. Knowing how I feel today, I might have kept the original red with the Healey blue, but that water has long since passed under the bridge.

We don't get pb blaster over here but I suppose it's the same stuff as wd 40? I did give the bolts a good spray over the past few days but no improvement.

Then dig you up some Kroil;)

In the vintage Porsche world it is very common and desireable for the blue cars to have a red interior. My brother also used to own a 1955 mercury that was a baby blue with red interior. It's a fairly nice combo, certainly not original for Healey's but still nice looking and would have been acceptable during the period.

Hey Jeepster,
There are some good products available to recolor your interior bits be they leather or vinyl. I used a product on my 100M to recolor the seats as the red was too burgundy to be correct. Has worked great and know others have had similar success. Would be particularly easy if you went to black as that is the easiest to change to. If you're interested let me know and I'll get you the info. In fact Moss now sells a product to recolor to black so that might be available from Moss UK.
Regards,
Mike
