Just chimed up the MGB and got it back in front of the garage. PB Blaster soakin' all th' A-arm bolts an' th' kingpin fasteners. Gave the brake line couplings a good dousin' too.

Gotta get on th' stick and put together a bushing list fer Tony now!

Doc, is there anything special about this '64? What kinda shape is it in?

Give us photos! Maybe a tutorial on replacing the kingpin bushing??? :eeek:

Been rebuilt over the last couple years, now in great shape. Front suspension is next on the list.
You haven't seen pix of this beastie? I'm shocked.

Just dug thru a portion of Th' Shed and located the NOS front rotors I buried in there... haven't come across the kingpins yet but THEY'RE IN THERE ~someplace~.

I may just do the photo tour, Mark.

Meanwhile:

Spring removal... th' rope in frame 2 is there as a joke for Tony from me. Totally unnecessary, but for th "frady-cats" it'd give a bit o' false security.

As near as I can tell, that rope is an elastic type. Now we all know that in order to stop those springs from bouncing off the roof rafters and back down onto the floor, thereafter to konk you in the noggin you should always use NON-elastic rope. That elastic stuff won't even knock 50 lbs of foot pressure of that projectile.

Doc, hehehehehehe........

But, for the guys who do not know better, the front springs of an MGB CANNOT leap, spring, bounce, jump, etc. out of the spring perch! Just jack the car up in the air, remove the caliper, & disconnect the top of the stub axle assembly from the shock & let it fall over - the spring CAN'T - I'll say it 1 more time - CAN'T go anywhere! It might roll out onto the floor if you work to really push the lower spring perch downward but you gotta work at that!

Doc, you silly G.I., you make funny......

Looks like the kingpins were already rebuilt once. The nylock gives it away. Also were is Elsinore Dk? Have fun with the project! bob

Done about a dozen of these, Tony is absolutely right. It's in Lindsay Porter's book.

Doc, on the other hand: Yellow rope? Doc, you are taking apart the suspension, you want to clash! Green or red rope, please! Have you no fashion sense, dear boy? Geeze!

Colin

It was what I had close to hand... it ain't elastic either. But if I'd thought it out I'd a used a bungy cord for the photo.

Bob's alert. They were done some time in the early 80's by a Chicago shop, long before we owned it. We've put over 100K on this lump in the 20 years we've had it. No idea what the true mileage is.

I'll try to keep a better fashion front from now on, Colin! :jester:
