Now I'm REALLY bothered by this!

Offline
Back in March, I posted a question regarding occasional roughness in my 1969 E-type's ride ("Please help solve the mystery..."). The general consensus was that the culprit was tread separation and I needed new tires--sounded reasonable to me!

Well, I got the new tires (which feel great--needed 'em anyway) and the problem seemingly went away...but it's back! It's far less frequent now, but just as disturbing. Here's a link to the original question, where I detailed all the symptoms:

Possible clue: the tire specialist who mounted my four new tires told me there didn't appear to be anything suspicious going on, but he did notice two things.

1. The left rear Dayton was very hard to remove.

2. He says that my Daytons are "Series III spec", not Series II. He claims there's a minute difference in measurements (I believe he said in the width), but he said it was negligible and shouldn't affect the ride.

Thanks muchly for your expertise...the education from specialists in clubs and forums has really made the boyhood dream of a classic Jaguar purchase far less mysterious and daunting...

The new tires might be wide enough to be cornering different to scuff the tread and cause the vibe, but are shocks new, old shocks will tear up new tires at an alarming rate, suspension is it tight and the tie rods, inner and outers, are they tight. As you see there is alot of possibilities, but if the tires solved the most I would check the shocks, if over 30k miles or old change them.

Agree with Larry - make sure the shocks are good and the rest of the susspension (fron and rear) is good and solid. Also, you might consider having your wires wheels tuned.

Cheers,
Basil

PS: Did you ever post a picture of your new E yet?
