Today I found a BE local. Fella has owned it for 25 years and he says has restored it. No rust, painted with emron over bare metal. Suspension rebuilt, engine rebuilt. Needs interior. All works, has leaking carb. All original. Might be a heck of a driver.

Now for the kicker, he wants 4K, I have not seen the car, appointment for Tue at one. Will take camera. About 20 miles away.

What is it worth?? What might I offer, LOL. 2K seem about right. Do you hear the knock. Just might be importunity.

That sounds like one heck of a good deal, even at 4K if there is virtually no rust and the paint is still sticking to the body.

Do you really NEED another project? (I know, that IS a stupid question!)

If the paint is in good condition, $4k for a rust free tub sounds like a deal. Imron in the early 80s was the dog's danglies, but it's probably more suitable for Freightliners and Peterbilts than Sprites. If it needs a repaint, might be a different matter as that stuff is supposed to be almost impossible to remove.

I bought my 1960 4 years ago with a completely painted tub for $4000. It had some parts, but engine/trans/interior had to be all bought new.
Since I bought mine, the entry value of BEs has gone up. While I think that 4 may be a bit on the high side, I would not be surprise to see the going rate of $3K. I would offer $2, but be willing to go up. $4 may be OK if it has all the parts, like top, side curtains, tonneau, tools, etc. And that would be with no or only surface rust.

I am not sure about this.....I mean parking any other BE next to Miss Agatha will SURELY give it an inferiority complex! LoL Keep us posted.....and pictures! :laugh:
 
No one knows of this BE for sale but me. The guy is playing golf tomorrow morning and is out for the afternoon. Tue, golf in morning and me at 13:00.

Understand car has been run since engine rebuild, etc. But not in several years.

I am considering getting it, if I can at my price, and making it into a driver then selling to a good home.

Good luck Jack, I would do the same thing, as I have a new house with lots of land to park my projects!

I paid about $4000 for the new Whitephrog five years ago. She did come with a recently rebuilt transmission and about $2000 in NOS parts.
 
Regarding Imron paint removal, any paint stripper with methyl chloride will take it off. Look for "epoxy paint remover" at Home Depot, I use the Jabsco brand. This is what we used to take Imron off of helicopters in the 80's, just be careful to do it in a very well ventilated area. There was a news story this week about 13 recent deaths using this to refinish bathtubs......

Oh and do NOT get it on your skin unless you like blisters and scarring. Also if you let it dry before removal it will turn into some sort of eternal substance that will never come off.
 
So in theory you could spray epoxy primer on the undercarriage then this stuff and let it dry and it would be good into eternity?
That would be awesome!

Her's my advice. I'd buy it and get it going.

Then I'd think to myself, "Hmmm, who should this car go to?" :confuse:

Then I'd think a good while till, " Hmmm, that Kellysguy dude sure does look out for me for me. He was all worried I croaked and was gonna send out the National Guard!" :whistle: :thumbsup:


I'd think, " Ya know, I sure do like fixin' up these old cars. :hammer: It's a lot of work but I got plenty time. :yesnod: It sure does cost a lot though. Man, I'd hate see somebody get somethin' that's gonna cost a bunch of money and time. :eeek: I think I'll build this one up first." :wink:




After a few months I'd come to realize, "Man, this sure is takin' up a lot of my time but I'm havin' fun. I'm having so much fun buildin' this second car, I don't have time to drive Ms. Agatha. Sure is such a shame to let her sit. :frown: She needs to go to someone who's gonna take care of her and drive her!" :driving:

Correct, it would also have the texture of lumpy bed liner...... The only way I know to get failed dry stripper off is to either bead blast it or chisel it off, a scraper will work too, but takes forever. Unfortunately, it is also very porous and will promote corrosion on alloy and steel.

Once when I was working at Evergreen Air Center in AZ in the 80's, I was up on a cherry-picker spraying this stuff on to a 737 when the wind shifted towards the employee parking lot. Of course I stopped spraying immediately, only to be ordered by my boss to get back up there and start spraying. As he put it: the company was not liable since you parked at your own risk and besides we were behind schedule. After 6 hours in the summer AZ sun the stuff was impossible to remove even from the glass windshields. Boy, there were some PO'd people at quitting time when they saw the tiny spots all over the cars. I was not blamed since everyone knew our bosses were total jerks.......
 
My real problem is my garage is full, sigh. No room to expand sideways or up.

Anyway, will take pics tomorrow and see about real price.

Will let you know what I find.
