Novice Decals Question

I bought new decals from TRF to put on the headlight and indicator switch escutcheons on the steering column.

I'm slightly embarrassed to say I don't know how these are applied. Does one soak them in water or something?

Once applied, do the escutcheons need to be coated in some sort of varnish to prevent the decals from rubbing off?

If they are like the ones I used on the column of the GT6, they are water applied decals. You don't soak them though.

As with plastic models, you cut out the decal you're working with, dip it in water using tweezers then place it to the side for about a minute. The water will wick through the paper backing and soften the glue. (If you soak them, you can wash all the glue away and have the decal slide off the paper into whatever container you're soaking them in.)

Hold the damp paper with tweezers adjacent to the area where the decal is to be applied and use a cotton swab (Cue-Tip) to slide the decal into place. Blot gently with tissue paper and leave it alone for a while until the glue hardens/dries.

Again... this was how the GT6 decals I bought years ago were applied. I assume those for the TR6 will be similar.

BTW, MicroMark.com has a lot of excellent supplies for decal creation and application.

Doug is right about not soaking them.

Please don't ask me how I know this, not once but twice.

Then I decided that I didn't need the decals anymore, since they were never there to begin with.

Thanks everybody! I shall be careful not to soak them /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
