Not Going into First?

This actually pertains to a 92 BMW 325is. It's a friend's car, and he just had a new transmission put in out of a 98 M3 with 60k miles on it. The car won't go into first gear while running unless it is moving. I didn't ask, but I assume this means when the car is both running and not running. Sorry I couldn't provide a little more detailed explaination, but ask me some questions that I can ask him to find out more, or if you think you know what it might be, throw it out there.

TIA.

Sounds like there's a possibility the clutch is not fully disengaging.
