So today I'm up at our lake house, where I keep all my toys.
It's about 5 PM and I'm under the twin-cam Escort doing the rear motor mount.
Feet sticking out, but the rest of me out of sight..
When I hear my neighbor pulls up, beeping his horn.

"What?", says I, (crawling out, and slighly annoyed).

"Ummm...look over there.", He says, pointing to a large, black bear about 25 feet away.

And so we comence to driving around the neighbor hood in our respective minivans, beeping horns and trying to "herd" said bear back into the wooded area in the west end of our area.

This one is a teenager and is not too big (maybe 250 lbs). We have a Big Momma we see that is likely over 400 lbs. Bears look fierce and you have to respect anything this big with razor sharp claws....but mostly, they're just like have a big, annoying dog roaming around the neighborhood.

I know a lot of people think that New Jersey is 100% paved and is basically just urban areas connected by the NJ Turnpike.
Not so.
We have bald eagles, egrets, herrons, coyotes, red fox and more white tail deer than the rest of the world (or so it seems).

I think he's saying, "Hey! What are *you* looking at?!"

"Just passin' thru!"

Twin-cam Escort?!?! You been holdin' out, Nial.

"Don't Feed the Bears."

Nah...it's a US Escort GT with the Mazda 1.8 twin cam (Miata engine).
So..."Twin-Cam Escort"
But not a real one. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

This'll be my club racer, to replace the Spridget (which will "retire" to vintage-only events).
Basically, a cheap-@ss Ford beater....like Dave's Pinto.
Good for thrashing.

And Tony, you're right.
The problem we have in my area is that people "feed" these bears....by leaving their garbage cans out, instead of putting them in the garage or in a garden shed.

It did stagger me a bit. I figger you KNOW a ~real~ one has been a particular fetish of mine.

The neighbors seem to be "bear enablers".... You need to adress that. Yesterday.

So, I'm guessing your laundry bill just went up... MINE WOULD!

We had one Black Bear steal a full sized chicken off a backyard barbecue grill two years ago. Now they get a police escort until they are out of town around here.

'round here th' bears are a "protected species"... not so th' 'possum population. Never had a bear breach th' boundary but as recently as last night there was a Giant Rat sighting inna back yard. That may be ameliorated THIS evenin' by a .380 round or two. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

You know the sure fire way you can tell if it's a black bear or a Grizzly?

Run up behind it and kick it in da butt.

If the bear goes up the tree Black Bear
If you go up the tree Grizzly
