Yesterday while visiting my freinds salvage yard, his son pulled in with his roll-back truck with two Honda GL1000s on board. I climbed up and was suprised to see that the older one...a 75 model...had 25k miles on it. Has all the fiberglass fairing, bags, rear storage box with backrest etc. Very nice shape and seems to have never been laid down.. Been in storage but cranked up regularly. Anyhow...the 78 model is rough...but pretty complate. With fuel prices...I figure what the heck. The delivered them and withing 20 minutes the 75 was running. Very nice bike...should sell by the week-end and 78 goes with the deal. Both have titles...even the seat on the 75 is nice. I'll take a couple of pics today and post them later.

How's come you ain''t in Florida?!?

I was JUST thinkin' I need a pair of older two-wheel transporters. Tho those lumps weren't really on th' list. Kinda thinkin' more along th' lines of the smaller Suzi water cooled fours.

I was just thinking I need a friend like yours - no I don't SWMBO would kill me!

my dad has a 77 GL1000. they actually don't get that great gas mileage', but they are a nice bike.

I prefer a little sportier.

91 FJ 1200(Yamaha), 125K miles, upgraded the brakes, keep good tires and chain on it, Just upgraded the carburetors, jet holders and am back to 40 mpg. I do NOT ride slowly......

Ron, that is ~precisely~ why 'smits has cited one of <span style="font-weight: bold">Newton's Unwritten Laws:</span> <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">"Doc don't ride nothin' with an engine and only two wheels."</span></span>

So far it's been a proven postulate... but things can change.

I had the advantage of riding before I met my wife -- my continuing riding was a non-negotiable item. Then I got her dad into riding as well...

Bonnie gets 42 mpg, little Honda should get 100 mpg.

It may not get great gas milage....but around here almost everyone has at least one gas guzzling F-350 dually or something like it....have a couple of people looking at them already. I called a freind that has a small m/c repair shop to come look and maybe give me some advice....he has an 81 Harley Ironhead 1000 Sportster for sale...will probaly pick that one up this Friday

That FJ1200 was one of the great under-rated sport-tourers of that decade, or any decade, for that matter.

No longer cutting-edge as an outright sport-bike (although they had their day) it went largely overlooked except by the more mature riders who could spot a bargain when they saw one.

Nice bike, you are a lucky man!

My first bike when I moved over here to Hawaii was a GPZ 550..

THAT was a sleeper. Went through the carbs, and put an exhaust on it. Never was able to get 70 out of it. Always 65-69 mpg...

And when the throttle turned and the rpm got up to 5K HANG ON!!!

Heres a pic...

Yup, looks a lot like my dads, but his is red, with red aftermarket hard bags, and a white Windjammer II full fairing. his has the aftermarket 2-level seat also, and some footboards installed.
Rides nice.

Hopefully it will ride off today and the parts bike will be loaded into my truck and I'll be hunting for something else to flip. I do this to pay for the resto of my A coupe and a new upgraded engine for my 911...

You're gonna need to do DOZENS of 'em for THAT!

Not that bad....except for the 911 engine....I buy all the parts for the A and do all the work myself. I'll start getting serious on it when the pile of parts gets bigger than the car....and I'm nearly there:smile:

I understand. It was the 911 engine I was directing the comment toward. Pricey, them.

How's come you ain't doin' it yourself? Rebuilding the existing Porsche engine, I mean.

Pricey is an understatement....I like the car, the style and the way it handles...but they're over rated usually. People come up and drool over it, ask if its fast etc. When you tell them a set of plug wires cost 250...and everything has to be ordered as not one parts place carries a single part, that kind of turns them off. There are two more in town besides mine. Neither are on the road.

Mebbe I need to re-evaluate my own "retirement" plan... Porsche shop in Clovis, NM...

NAaahhh... only two clients and a guy buyin' parts on occasion. I can starve adequately right where I am.
