I have a lead on a complete Judson Supercharger kit for a MGA. Has anybody seen one of these for sale recently. It has a carb, supercharger, tappet cover with the oil container. It appears to be in real nice condition. The seller was thinking about ebay and I would like to make him a fair offer and have to for when I get to my friends MGA project.

I checked Ebay and these things are crazy priced where a unknown condition one was going for over $400.

They're pretty pricey - but rare.

Oddly enough, a supercharged MGA was the subject of an article in Classic Cars, I believe it was in last month's issue.

A brief (almost uninformative) summary:

https://www.classiccarsmagazine.co.uk/article/by-id/1610530363/

I don't recall whether it spoke of values....

If you'd like a copy of the article send me a PM and I'll try to scan and send it for you over the weekend....

Re: NOS-MGA Judson Supercharger kit-what is it wor

Looked at the Practical Classics article. They said a kit consisting of the blower, manifold, carb, pulleys and specail rocker cover cost $248 in 1957 and would "....add a zero to the price for a good one today." It was said to increase a otherwise stock 1500 engine's ouput from 58 Hp to 90. They don't actually say what it cost, just that they bought it through a specialist Judson supplier.

1-1.5k with the correct pulley, bust suspect they may go up now that Moss has a new market.

Since it was Practical Classics magazine they may be refering to a UK based price from an importer here. Some things are cheaper here, some not... this may be one of those things that would get bid up, or which may bear import costs:

I believe that such parts would be subjected to import duty and VAT (UK sales tax, basically)- which together would add roughly 30% onto the US cost + shipping + a markup for the vendor... so maybe ~$2500 here for something that's rare and worth ~ $1.5K in the US is about right, given the costs....

My friend brought in some pictures and the unit is not new but is in very nice condition. I decided not to buy but will sell it for hime on Ebay.. I will update the post when it gets listed... Maybe a week or so.

Well a stock 1500 had either 68 or 72 BHP depending on year (only very early cars had the lower figure), but the 90 BHP is about right - equivaklent to a 1622 stock MGA.

These are neat period pieces but are not serious performance items. Been there, done that. Had one on an MGB engined MGA.

There is a local TD with a period Judson Supercharger. Pretty much acts as an altitude equalizer.
