Noisy Fuel Pump?

There is a loud noise coming from the boot of my 1971 TR6. I thought maybe the fuel pump was on its way out but having looked at it closely I now think its fine. However it pumps constantly (as soon as the ignition is on) and there is a mass of plumbing back there. It looks like there is a pressure switch which seems to be resonating. Can anyone answer these questions?

1. Should the fuel pump be on all the time?
2. Is there a pressure switch?
3. has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks

Richard
