I think water taxi by small boat is a great idea. Park your car and ride into Manhattan by water. It's no fun driving into the City dodging wild taxis, manholes, buses, bicycle messengers, tieups, tolls, and having to pay $40-$50 to park in a garage. We much prefer to take the train and now with Uber, getting a ride is easier. Ferries are big in Seattle, for example.
