General TR no title or registration?

Could you keep me informed re. the cost of a lawyer and court cost to procure a missing/lost title. Just went part way on a Triumph acquisition but backed out of the purchase because of the DMV red tape.
Thanks,
Al

Question - what if he had bought the car from a dealer? Hmmn? Same result? How about buying a suit from a store that turned out to be part of a stolen shipment? Same result?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me in general it would be easier to recover from an ongoing business than a private individual. The business isn't going to hide or leave town (or declare personal bankruptcy over a set of tires).
Of course local laws vary a lot, and enforcement of them varies even more. Not sure how you "prove" that the PO did not, in fact, sell the car and "forget" to turn over the paperwork. Hopefully I'll never find out!

Here in Ma if there is no title the seller has to prove the chain of ownership to him such as a tax receipt for the car or an old insurance policy on his name. Been there done that, PITA!
