No Oil Pressure

Getting my bn2 back up and running after 3 years.
Pre oiled the cylinders today and began cranking it.
No oil pressure. It has a spin on filter so I took that off
To see if oil is getting to the filter and it is dry. So the
gauge seems to be working. The motor was not rebuilt
since it ran fine before. I did replace the pan gasket though.
I believe I kept the relief valve areas clean. Any idea
why the pump won't pump?

What are the odds; distributor/oil pump drive spindle(s) broken?

Is the distributor turning__broken timing chain another possibility.

Ummm, there is oil in the pan, right...?

Doncha have to prime the oil pump if it is dry?

What Steve Byers said... but how do you prime the pump? Can you fill the oil filter before installing?

Did you crank it with the filter off? That should be enough to get the pump to prime, if not then squirt some oil into the pump and it should pick up.

The spin on filter provides too much resistance for a dry pump.

Andy.

how long has it been sitting with oil in it
if not long, I tried mine after rebuild, right after putting oil in it.
same type of issue no pressure
i called norm nock
"wait a day and try again
then wait another day if needed" NN/1992
it started right up the next day

Remove the braided line going from the engine to the OP guage and using an old-fashioned oil squirt gun put in as much oil as you can. This will prime the oil pump.
