For the first time ever, I checked the oil level of my 2018 Subaru Legacy and was horrified to discover the stick was 99% dry with only a few drops of oil on the stick! The check engine light or oil warning light never went on .I called my friend Danny the service manager of the local Subaru dealer and he told me not to add more than one quart of 0-10W synthetic oil. I called one of my wife's friends to give me a ride to Walmart where they had Mobil 1. I bought two quarts just in case. I also had to buy a funnel since there was none on our rented house. I added the quart and checked the oil. It was just below the full line. Crazy. This 2.5 liter 3 cylinder takes 4.8 qts. of oil, so it was only down one quart in about 5000 miles. I never had a car where a dry dipstick had any oil left in the sump but I tell you what - I'm going to check the oil more frequently now. And 0-10W oil? I never knew there was such a thing. Imagine that thin stuff in our cars. You'd burn through a quart every 100 miles. Anyone have a similar experience?
