No Heat Shield Cause Dieseling?

Still trying to knock out problems on my 1600 the lastest being bad dieseling on shutdown. This engine is missing the carb heat shield. Could this be contributing to dieseling? I think not because it still diesels even after running the engine a short time and not building up any heat. Timing is set at about 15deg with a light. Starts good. Know I need the shield eventually. Anyone have a spare for sale? Any experience/advice on dieseling?

Sounds like you've got a bit of carbon buildup in one or more cylinders. Usually caused by burning oil over a period of time. Check your spark plugs to see if they are oil fouled.
