goes unpunished. :madder:
So, I go to have a new exhaust system installed on the wife's MGB. It had a small hole in the rear muffler. Sounds great now.
Very quiet..nice little purr.
By the time I get home...FLAT tire. Seems somebody liked the cutoff wheel so much they wildly cut a rear sidewall. Nice 3
inch gash with the leak at the center on the gash.
No way am I letting the wife drive on that tire even if someone
thinks they can repair a ripped sidewall.
Turns out the tires are no longer available. CRAP.
Now I have to buy 4 new ones.
Muffler shop is very nice about it and offers to pay for one tire but I'll just let it pass and hope for some good karma.

At least you didn't find out about the slash after it blew out and caused an accident. What kind of tires?

Supreme Sport Ultras in a 175R14. Nobody carries them around here and my internet search comes up empty.
I suspect they are old even though they still have nibs on them.
The B didn't get much road time after it was restored a few years back.

The fact that the shop neglected to tell you of their mistake would cause me some concern. Letting a customer drive off with a tire like that is dangerous. They are lucky nothing serious happened to you or your family. Time to find a new shop.

I don't think they knew they had cut the tire. I've known them for some time and they have always done me right in the past.
They know I'm and old trial lawyer too. I'd think if they had known it was cut they would have told me.
Or...maybe they were trying to do the world a favor and rid it of another evil lawyer.

I do indeed feel lucky that nothing happened. I'm glad it did leak down. It could have been just sliced but not leaking until
BANG coming down some mountain road.

The new tires should be here tomorrow.

As one who has screwed up enough, the person that did the damage knew it. Maybe the owner didn't know it, but the nub that did it did. Unless it was the owner did the work.

I tend to agree. The owner was POed. He wants the tire to confront his employee. I still feel sorry for the guy who did it. Knowing the owner the poor nub will not have much of a behind after some serious chewing by the Boss.
Obama would love my empathy.

Have you contacted Coker Tire?

Nevermind Coker!! I wanna see David nominated for a seat on the Judiciary!!!

Free to a good home

3 slightly used (3/4 or better tread left) 175R14 Ultra Supreme Sport blackwall tires. Very clean. No cracking.
Price is right...free. Shipping could be a bummer.
Located in Pumpkintown S.C.
Limited offer...act now....as of Friday if no takers
they are gone to the re-cycle center.
I just don't have storage space. The dang B has already eaten away at the Bugeye's quarters.

EDIT: make that plus one plugged one that's currently holding air.

Like I told them before..."Why should I take a pay cut
and work more hours?" :jester:

But... Think of th' POWER, th' FAME.

feh. You're right. Life's too short...

Tho I've always maitain'd (and actually have several lawyer friends who tacitly agree) lawyers are aught but frustrated stage actors. :smirk:

I often tell people the wife does all the real work as my
para-legal.
I just do the dog and pony shows and entertain the troops.

David, go get some 185/70/14 or 195/60/14, I can't believe this many folks have commented and no one has said that yet, they will work fine with the wheels you have, literally thousands of MGBs are running on them, I recommend Summitumo for the money, you can get a H rated tire for like $50 a piece, look at Tire Rack for prices. THose Ultra are crap anyway, maybe the muffler shop did you a favor

David and I know each other pretty well, just making sure my buddy travels the right path, since good advice was non existent in this thread thus far

Okay, I'll second th' Sumi 185/70-14's.

But I think my suggestion to vet him for the open seat on the Court was STELLAR advice! 'sides, HE brought it up! :jester:

Well.......

Since Hap wants to get realistic.

So Hap, I take it I shouldn't drop the old casings at Acme Speed for a discount on those new BE wheels I want.
Those sucker are M/S rated in case you need to take that GT hot rod of yours off road.
I tried to get Lynn to let me plant flowers in 'em and set 'em out in front of the office. No go. Go figure.
Perhaps we could use them to spruce up the entrance to your
shop. Paint 'em white and everything.
Let me know and I'll hold 'em. :jester:

Just checking in here after being away at the PVGP.

I have the Sumitomos on my '69 MGB and they are fine and well-priced.
I had them on my old street Spridget too.
The only problem is that they are hard (they have a 380 wear number). After six years on the street Spridget, they showed almost no wear (30,000+ miles) but had age-hardened and were useless. I threw them away.

I drive the MGB about 2000 miles a year so with they would probably still have tread on them in 30 years if I was dumb enough to keep them that long.

My MGB is just a cruiser. It has the original wire wheels and is rarely driven hard. I really don't mind if the tires on it are not high performance. The Sumitomos are a perfectly acceptable tire. The main thing is, they're cheap, the correct size and aren't horrible. But for sure, I wouldn't exactly call them "sticky". Not exactly an autocross tire.

A much better tire in a similar catagory is the Hankook Ventus R-S2. They are only about $25 more each and are a much more sticky and appropriatly soft tire for low-mileage classics. I have them on my street Miata and they are amazing at Lime Rock or Pocono track days.

The problem with the Hankooks is the smallest size available is 195/60-14 and I'm not sure if that will squeeze onto an MGB. I didn't want to try with my (wire-wheel) car, but maybe Hap will have an opinion. It would depend on wheels and offset.

Oh and as for the smarmy political comments.....Ixnay!

Basil and I probably do not agree on much politically, but we both agree that one of the best things about British Car Forum is the lack of baiting political comments here. It keeps down the pointless "flame wars" that are so prevelant on other web forums.

Let's play nice.
