No Car Crusher for Crypt Car- life spared

Whew!! Crypt Car was almost a goner.

Jeff Paltech was dead on correct with his diagnostic
advice about why the Crypt Car refused to start with
Jeff's fantastic carbs and Dan Masters great new wire
harness.

Jeff suggested I had an air leakage problem and that
I might not have tightened down the new manifold clamps
and carb nuts.

So I got up at 4:30 AM this morning so Wendy would "catch"
me working on the Crypt Car. Sure enought I had completely missed tightening one of the lower, hidden manifold clamps. Bill knows excatly which one I missed, don't ya??

A few of the others were not as tight as they could have
been. I am afraid of breaking off studs, considering how
difficult it is to obtain replacements here on the island.

I kinda lost track of time and so there I am sitting in the
car, choke pulled out full and locked. A spritz of gasoline
in each carb and ready to turn the ignition key.

BLARGH!! Out walks Wendy- way early of her normal 8:00 AM
rise. I get "the look" and have no choice but to turn the
ignition key while she is glaring daggers at the Crypt Car.

After a few false starts I was able to get the car running.
One or two backfires, and the Crypt Car engine is spinning
under it's own combustion power. The car will not run at low
speed idle but I think that's just minor adjustments.

Oil pressure at a constant 75 psi at moderately fairly
high idle rpms. I think that might be a good
indication my engine may not need a total rebuild.

Dan and Mike Masters!! What do you think?? Jeff's carbs
with your wire harnness, Mike's help on the wire install.
The Crypt Car actually continued to run until I turned the
key off. First time in 8 months the car has actully run
under it's own combustion with pedal feeding gas.

I think I bought a few weeks before talk of the car
crusher becomes a daily routine.

Paul, Maybe that TR6/beach photo you want might not
be that far in the future.

Thanks all for your support and encouragement.
What a learning curve this has been for me!!

Fantastic Dale! You'll soon be zipping around the island...

Great job Dale!! I would suggest that you keep in close touch with Jeff and I'm sure he'll help guide you through the adjustment process. And I'll be getting that beach picture in the very near future.

Good luck,

Dale
are you just stalling because your beaches are really not that good???????

Looks like something from one of the old "Godfather" movies- for refusing a deal you shouldn't have....

As the disclaimer for the video says, its not for everyday use....

Just imagine what they would think of a red TR3 with wires!!!!

Dale,
Happy to hear you have it running. I know it will be just a matter of time for you to get the fine tuning done. I have yet to attempt to tackle finding my idle problem. I am still just a little intimidated, plus I figure it is a good winter project for me. Keep us posted and congrats again!

The Crypt Car pretty much blew up today.
Not a clue what happened or where to begin
to look for the cause.

I had just started it in full choke and it was at
very high idle around 2,000 rpm. I revved it a bit
to see if the idle would drop any. The engine quit
almost like a knife cut it out of the car. Now it
will not even sputter. Just grinds away with that
sound of "you know it ain't gonna kick
over."

Since there is just one of me I can't even pull a
plug wire check to see it any spark is present while
I crank it. All electrical components are brand new.
Zero -0- miles driven on them.

Any suggestions appreciated.

dale

I can't remember, do you have points in that car? If so you can take a plug wire with a plug on it, then attach the plug wire to the coil. Then you can manualy open and close the points and see if you get a spark. That is a quick check. Also make sure the points have not moved so they don't open at all. I had that happen twice and best I can tell it was a bad production run of points as both were bought at the same time and they both only lasted (before moving) about five miles.
