No a/c in my 1989 xj6

The air in my 1989 xj6 won't come on. None of the lights for the mode, nor humidity come on either. I believe it is the a/c switch. How do I remove the face plate for the a/c? to change the switch out?

Hello Chef,
Open the center console. Remove the screws holding in the ashtray assy.Remove the ashtray assy complete. You can leave the lighter wires connected, just move it all out of the way.Reach under the remaining wood and feel around the shifter. There are 3 little FRAGILE tabs that retain the chrome and rubber finisher around the shifter. Gently unclip with a fingernail, and remove the finisher. Then unscrew the plastic wingnuts that retain the "ski slope" wood. Lift up the rear edge and work it out of the top, around the radio and heat controls.6 screws hold the plastic mounting for the radio/climate control. Then loosen the screws and pull off the climate control head assy. The problem is a bad micro switch in the control head. Parts are/were available from Jag, and I would bet that the big suppliers have them. The job does require some soldering, but is not hard. Ask the parts vendors, they may have exchange units available.

Well, I really must thank you for that advice, I went to a junk yard today, and got the piece I needed off an '88. My air works as well as it did a week ago.
