Nitrous injection

Anybody ever applied a little nitrous to an A series? What were the results if you did?
Rut

It would has to be a wet setup, and I think it would be hard to get a balance between all four cylinders due to the charge robbing of the siamese port head. And, I'd definitely watch for signs of head gasket failure.

The Mini guys have a few opinions on this topic.

Trevor,
I was looking at the dry vs wet set ups and wondered which one I would need. From what I can tell one of my extra manifolds looks like a good candidate to be drilled and tapped for the injectors and a wye at the gas tank with a separate pump and line. One of the Harley or other large bike set ups look applicable, but I really don't know if this would be a useable boost in power or a novelty.

The allure of more power for the A type engine will continue to consume us. However if you know of a machine shop that works with a lot of the nitrous players it would be advantageous to hang around for an hour or so? You will definitely be able see why they stay in business!!

Alan,
great idea! I was watching one of the tv shows and they were discussing the various methods of boosting power and NOS was by far the most bang for the buck. The simplicity of the system is nice as well.

Oh, you can get lots of bang alright!

These aren't strip terrors, no need for something you can only use a few seconds at a time. The problem with nitrous is it's addictive. You keep hitting the button till you use up all the juice or all of the motor. Whatever power you have needs to be reliable power. Build a motor for power, be it NA, supercharged or turbo, there is no short cut to HP. The way I see it, a (stock) motor can do "X" amount of work in it's lifetime. You can stretch that work out over a long period of time, or "withdraw" as much as you can as quickly as possible. I don't think anything drains the account faster than nitrous ( although an over boost takes a close second place)

You get a lotta "bang fer yer buck" outta crystal meth too.....

If I really wanted more power I'd look at turbo or supercharged.

Wonder how spridget rear axle's would like that?? As the head of the local speed shop we used to hang out at when growing up used to say:"Speed cost's money.....how fast do ya want ta go!!"

Kurt.

I can see his face, Billy, but can't remember his name. he was the first guy in the area that would line you up with mag wheels, headers and every type of internal engine mod that the normal parts stores didn't have a clue about. He ended up moving on and, I believe, making a pile of cash in Chicago in the parts business. But that was kinda his standard question to any newby that walked in and started gawking.

My sense of nitrous is that it is basically for straight line applications - whereas my sense of Spridgets is that they shine in the corners. I think if I wanted straight line zoom, I would be looking at an RX7 lump, or, more likely a different car.

Jake of Jake's Speed shop in N.O use to say the same thing.
