The US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville will be starting a "Nichelle Nichols Space Camp for Girls" in Jan 2026.
Of course Nichols played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek franchise.
Fun fact: Nichols was going to quit Star Trek after the first season to pursue Broadway, but was talked out of it by MLK! King was a huge Trekkie and convinced Nichols to stay in the part because of the positive influence her role had on kids. "“For the first time on television, we will be seen as we should be seen… intelligent, beautiful, and qualified.”
