This is what I sent to King County Metro Friday morning:
I have a problem.
A Metro bus tried to take me out on I-405 NB in Bellevue yesterday evening.
This occurred between 1650 and 1655 hours local.
I was NB in centre lane, to avoid trafic merging, traffic flow was 30-40 MPH.
It was very bright, and as we passed under the NE 8th or NE 4th bridge and entered shadow, I realized a Metro bus in the fast lane had his turn signals on.
Unfortunately, I was at his front wheel, had nowhere to go, as he came into my lane.
Checking of the rear view mirrors showed traffic that would have created a serious accident had I nailed the brakes, and there was no room to move on the right.
The bus continued to enter my lane, how close is hard to guess, as I was driving a classic RHD Jaguar, and could not see the left side clearance.
Then the driver honked at me!
He eventually pulled in behind me, crossed over 3 more lanes and exited to HWY 520, so I was unable to obtain a bus number.
I had previously checked the RCW in this, and rechecked today, and busses have the right of way entering from a stop, NOT the right of way while driving.
This could have been A) expensive, and B) serious as far as injuries go.
Without a bus number, granted, you can't do much, but it was not a pleasant experience.
I always watch for and yield to busses merging from a stop, as required by law, but this was scary.
Thank-you for listening.
