Nice story......Land Rover

I love to hear stories where the good guy wins!
Kind of like seeing someone given a good deal on a British vehicle because the seller knows that it's going to the right person.

Gulp! That's my Land Rover. I can't tell you how shocked I was when I arrived the final day. I thought I was there to help on a television shoot as I did once before for East Coast Rover. That was the pretense under which they lured me there.

Certainly I noticed that the shop looked very clean and that the entire staff was neatly dressed. I pondered a bit as to why family members were present, too, but they insisted they just wanted to watch the production.

Killing time "before the crew arrived," I asked what was under the various Rover sized lumps. I picked up the end of one car cover and spotted a Sage Green fender front, gleaming in the light. I thought, "one day, my Land Rover might look that good again." Then I picked up the other side and saw my Maine license plate, "QE I." I dropped any savoir faire and screeched around the shop. I couldn't believe my good fortune.

A year later, the Rover still runs wonderfully. The refurbishment did not cover other worn out pieces, like the front and rear differentials, a failing alternator and starter. The car has nearly 450,000 miles on it, and is running its second engine. This rebuilt one from Rovers North was installed, along with a clutch, in 1995, and both are still in the car. I rebuilt the transmission a couple of years later when a thrust washer dissolved.

I've never had such good forture fall upon me, and this rebuilt Rover is still taking me to work, doing chores, and entertaining me throughout Maine. I'm still in public education and I still edit the Rovers North News magazine.
