Not sure Noonie. I did go to Burgess' website, but I don't remember.

We're doing it ourselves. I'm going to mark, Chuck can grind. Then he can mark and I get to grind. Wallah.

sounds fun.... goin' grindin' with the sawzall? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I can't grind with the sawsall you silly boy.

Gasket matching the ports is a far cry from a full porting job.
A dumb question on my part, but is the manifold gasket on a "B" dowelled in place? For the life of me, I can't remember. If not, it helps to do it, as then you are always certain that the gasket falls in the same place, and doesn't slip and block any of your recent Sawzall work.

But I think Burgess includes the head... not sure though.

[/ QUOTE ]

I looked into Peter Burgess heads awhile ago, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't include the head. I can't imagine what it would cost to send a head to the UK and back. Personally, I would let a pro do the P&P job. Hit a gallery and you have a nice door stop. Plus, those guys can really make it breathe and check their work with a flow bench.

John, if you get into a full port job on a head, then you also open up another can of worms by now needing a different cam, carburation, exhaust, etc. to support the additional flow.
Personally, I love rumpty rump LBC street motors, but, as you know, you have to approach the whole engine as a system, rather than just bolting on a couple of go fast parts.

****! Janel - let Chuck do it....he'll finish it in a few hours..

...gasket on manifolds, mark excess with chaulk - grind excess off....gasket on block, mark excess, grind excess off

anything else, Doc?

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope. That pretty much covers port matching... giving it a full "flow" job and cc'n takes a bit more, but Jeff said it above... once you start THAT, you're in deep.

Jeff, you're definitely right on the money there. Personally, I don't think Janel should worry about a P&P job at this time. She has plenty other things to throw money at. Just get the car back together and if she wants to do that later, that's fine too!

I put my engine together with a P&P job planned for the future.

Isn't that why we have "spare" engines lyin' about? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

John, I agree totally with JB having plenty of other things she can be spending money on.
But, on the other hand, you just have to love the sound of a $15,000.00 MGB engine! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Jeff, I love the last part of that line - seems to fit Janel to a "T". LOL

$15000 engine? That's $5000 more than I've put aside to restore this car!

JB, when you start chasing the last elusive bit of power, and switch to things like titanium valves, rods etc., that 15 grand can come up pretty quickly.
Ask not how I know.
Jeff

I'm disturbed, but I'm not THAT disturbed Jeff. A bit hotter cam, couple other things, that's it for the engine. Heck, I'm THRILLED the way Emma is running now (have I mentioned how much I love my SUs?) - I don't need much more in Binabox.

I think a nice lopeeee cam would really sound about right. A stage II one please. Hehe.

Janel, what upgrades you do will be even more noticeable in Binabox compared to Emma, as it's lighter, lower, and more nimble.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif The CB car will use the juice better! so take that smog free engine, port and polish, cam it down, richen it up and let her sing! A little rought idle can be tolerated...or enjoyed, depending on how big of a motorhead you are /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

I've asked this before and no one answered--How much of the smog do I take off the GT? I have a fully functioning system including a antirunoff valve. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/troll.gif

Bruce L

I would leave the anti-runon valve there. Mine has been stripped of the air pump and piping to and including the air rails, gulp valve. The vacuum connections to the same have been plugged. The fuel evaporation cannister and connections to the carbs, anti-runon and tank is in place. SO really the only things that needed removed from a 74 was the airpump...the rest of it is useful and IMHO reasonable, as it takes nothing in performace from the engine.

I also have my car registered as an antique in PA, and have no inspection requirments.
