I have been looking on the UK ebay. Since i am board. What is the guideline on shipping a newer MG into the states if anybody knows. I would like to get one cause they look really good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

I was formerly in the steamship business and witnessed many horror stories when folks imported autos that were not already altered to US specifications as to emmissions, lights, safety equipment Etc. Once the car is on the dock, Customs will not release it until it is at spec and they won't allow you to work on it on the dock. This can sometimes be gotten around, but if you go this route by all means check with Customs first to see what needs to be done on your model and have it altered in the UK prior to shipment. Good luck!

OK - now that I've had my coffee and am somewhat awake I want to add to my comments that you will need to engage the services of a licensed Customs House Broker to attend to the Customs formalities. CHB's are quite conversant in regard to this type of question, so if you know what port the vehicle will enter you can contact one in advance and sort the issues out. When shipped, the bill of lading should include the CHB as the "Notify Party" with yourself being the "Consignee". Should you have any further questions I will try to help.

Not worth the hassle - I've imported cars in the past & its getting more complicated every day & the cost is skyrocketing....money is better spent restoring your old B, IMHO.
