GT6 Newby w/ GT6 Question

Hi,
This is my first post on the British Car Forum. Thanks for having me. I don't have a sports car right now. In the late 70s, I had an orange MGB. The only trouble I had with it was a leaky transmission. I could tell if the tranny oil level was low when the O/D would drop out. In the mid-80s, I acquired a restored TR3A. Imron paint in VW Spanish Green w/ a matching hard top & white side curtains. It was beautiful and I loved it but, after the MGB, it drove a bit like a tractor. Sold it about a week before I totaled my Volvo in a head-on with a Chevy Caprice. I was sure glad to be in a Volvo & not a Triumph that evening. Since then I've had a '63 Studebaker Avanti & a BMW R100RS. Periodically, the bug bites me & I'm back to fiddling with something old & mechanical.

Well, the bug's bit again. While shopping for one of my toys, I came very close to buying a GT6. The owner changed his mind, not me. Anyway, I'm thinking about finding another GT6. Here's my first, of what I hope will be several GT6 questions: I am 6 feet tall & 200 lbs - will I fit in a GT6? I must've sat in the one I looked at, but I can't remember... A friend of mine had a Spitfire in the 60's and I don't remember having a problem fitting in it, but they do have plenty of headroom.

So, will I fit? If I'm going to have to tilt me head to the side to look out the windscreen I can scratch the GT6 off of my list.

I'm six feet tall and 200 lbs, and can fit into a GT6+, I have to tilt more getting in and out of my Pontiac. You should find it very accommodating. Great golf cart also! I like the tractor comment though.

Its going to depend on your body shape.

I am 6' and was at 195 (now at 165). Just completed a 1300 mile trip in my 68 GT6. Outside of a stiff knee there are no problems that I have.

A friend of mine tho who is roughly 6' 1" complained that the roof line cut off his line of sight. I don't have that problem myself, but it is something for you to check out before buying sight unseen.

A bit awkward to get in and out of, but not a real problem.

I'm 6'2", 195. No problem with comfort in a GT6. Getting in and out is a little tricky but not a problem if you have average flexibility.

With stock seating, the only bothersome thing is seeing out of the windscreen at traffic lights: I have to bend my neck to see the light!

Otherwise, relatively comfy interior, but limited leg room for your right leg. Having said that, I've driven GT6s upwards of 100,000 miles (I've owned 3 of them), fun and grins the whole time (well, most of the time).

Not as much room or as comfortable as an MGB, because it's a Triumph and a true GT sports car. The GT6 also weighs about 450 +- lbs. less than an MGB! FAR more fun to drive, and quicker/faster! :yesnod:

With modern, period-correct off the shelf parts you can coax 140HP out of the GT6 2 liter engine. 140 HP will make a GT6 run like a scalded cat and more fun to drive and own than many cars that cost two, three or four times more.

A fantastic bargain, the GT6, and a tremendous head-turner everywhere you go.

Don't hesitate: GET ONE! Then, come back here and let us help you make it go!

Welcome to th' forum, KB!!! I spent a few years in Hampton, great place, IMO.

Get th' GT-6!!! You'll fit.

A guy who was a photographer for the NN paper had Triumphs in the '70's, John Sheally, III, seems to ring a bell. Lots of auto-X weekends back then. Wonder if he's still around...

I lived out on Buckroe Ave. a few blocks from the pier. My silver MGB and red Lotus Elan ran in auto-X out on some Mercury Blvd shopping plazas.

Great times!!

Again, welcome!

Thanks Gents,
Sounds like a GT6 is still in my future.

DrE, I kept a boat at Salt Ponds for several years so I probably passed your place regularly. The name John Shealy does sound familiar to me. I bought a 914 that was built for autoX. I had to put a few things on it to make it street legal, but it was a blast to drive. The suspension was so stiff I could run over a dime & tell you if it was heads or tails.
