newby question

If you mean the one for the temperature and fuel gauges, there isn't one on a '62 (not originally). The stabilizer was introduced in late 1964 and is bolted to the top of the speedometer when fitted. The pre-1965 cars had a fuel sending unit that bolts to the tank with 6 screws and the fuel gauge is "fast acting", where the needle jumps up off "E" as soon as you turn on the ignition.

If, on the other hand, you mean the regulator/control-box for the charging system, that moved around from year to year and trim level to trim level. However, those are on the car's right side (your left when standing looking at the engine). Typically they are on the inner wing but on some cars they are mounted horizontally on the bulkhead just in front of the firewall.

Welcome!
