Greetings,
I am a lifelong car person involved with customs kits and vettes,
here is my current project,

https://www.laser917.net/infusions/registry/registry_view_panel.php?A=121

It's on a full frame and will soon be v6 powered with auto tranny.

My dad 83 yo and not into computers ask me to join a couple MG groups,
Seems he went to a car show the other day in Jacksonville with his Avanti 2

He fell for a 59 MG said it was the first car he ever liked even better than his Avati saying they are just different, He says the one he saw was basically perfect and the owner said it was a 30 K car.

So he is seeking one in a way just to see if he can get into one,
What he would really like to do is just swap his Avanti which is a very nice car but he might just buy the MG then sell the Avanti as he just uses it as a second car for errands

He can't afford a full blown 30 K trailer queen but rather would like a sound "driver" as he isn't capable of doing a full rebuild, but his back ground of being a Navy jet tech and private life machinist makes normal repairs ok even at his age, the Avanti is pretty much a 98% car and my dad loves to tinker.

I guess at this point I need people to tell me the real deal on what can be had and at what price in the 59-61 style he likes as it reminds him of a Jaguar he had,
I am just not down on Ebay so lets stay with just real people here

Many thanks
Cheers,
P.

Start with a look through ebay for the kind of stuff available and priceing.

Think you will find 30K just a bit high. LOL

Your comparison of an old Jag and a 50's MG is quite accurate. The MGA, which is most likely what he saw, was called "baby Jag" back in the day because much of its styling was taken from the XK series Jaguars. Many people feel that the MGA was one of the most beautiful cars of its day and even nicer looking than the Jag itself.

A solid MGA roadster with no major flaws will typically fetchh around $15-20K. A really nice one will go for $20-25K. $30K will get you a top quality car and $35-40K is a concourse winner.

Prices sometimes drop in the winter, but that's mainly an eBay thing. Private party prices remain fairly stable throughout the year, especially now that MGAs have become very collectible.

There are two MGAs for sale on the local (CO) MG club web site.
https://mgcc.org/swap.htm

Both cars are in Colorado. One is a '57, the other a '61.

I am not personally acquainted with either car, so I can't comment on condition.

I have a friend who just bught one this last year that had a great body, except for a ding on the drivers rear quarter, and needs an engine rebuild, a very nice car, for $10,000. They are out there. Good luck.
