I'm a newbie and of course need help. I owned an MGB about twenty years ago and would like to find it. I don't have the VIN, so it's a difficult search. I picked it up from the manufacturer in England while living in Germany. Any advice is appreciated. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Can't help you with your search, but I'm priviliged to be the first to welcome you to this forum. Am sure you'll be hearing soon from those that might be able to help. Again welcome and I'm sure you won't be a newbie for long.

Well, without a VIN, it's gonna be difficult. I think a little more info would help. Do you know what year it was? and what color? How about where it was sold (and to who if you know that).

BTW - Welcome to the LBC forums!

Thanks for all the 'welcomes.' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
The car was British red, which is kind of reddish/orange. I'm not sure how we bought it, but we were in Germany at the time, and picked the car up at the manufacturers in London. That was probably 1979...it was an MGB.

It was sold in Amityville (or a surrounding town), New York but I'm not sure the year.

Thanks for the help.

Welcome Kathy. W/o the VIN I'd have no idea how to find the car, but you might try to track down the "manufacturers in London" you mention. I assume by manufacturer you mean a dealership, and not the actual Abingdon works; the London dealership has likely changed hands, but each London borough council keeps records of all businesses (opening, closing, and transfers). Perhaps the current possessor of the original dealership's books can do some research for you, as you know the approximate year when you bought it.

I also had good luck myself on getting some specs on my own MGB by contacting British Motor Industry Heritage Trust in Warwick UK. If you can eventually find the VIN (they call it the chassis number) or engine number, they can pull the original factory record. Reach the BMIHT at Banbury Road, Gaydon, Warwick, postcode CV35 0BJ in England.
